10 Ways to Cut Back Your Sugar Intake

1. Stop drinking soda, fancy coffee drinks and especially energy drinks

2. If you like sugar in your coffee, use packets of raw sugar instead of freely pouring from a container. This way you can actually tell how much sugar you are consuming. Another way to cut sugar out is by choosing a healthy sugar alternative, like Stevia, which is sweet but has no calories or chemicals.

3. Dilute juice with water, so you are only taking in half of the sugar content per glass.

4. Read the labels of sports bars, condiments, cereals and products that read Fat Free. Many of these items are loaded with sugar. If you find it has more than 10 grams, choose something else to eat.

5. Stay clear of processed food. They tend to be loaded with unnatural ingredients, as well as sugar.

6. Sweeten shakes or a bowl of cereal with a chopped ripe banana.

7. Only use the serving size recommended for a sweetener. For example a serving of honey is 1 TBS. Instead of placing two or three spoonfuls in your tea, only use one.

8. If you have a sweet tooth, try to satisfy it with fresh fruit instead. Some of the bacteria in the body feeds off of sugar and if you consume too much the bacteria multiply, making you crave more sugary food. To prevent this, stick to natural sources of sugar and try to eat more protein and vegetables.

9. Instead of using syrup for waffles or pancakes, drizzle on honey or a dollop of Jam instead.

10. Instead of milk chocolate, choose dark chocolate or carob. Dark chocolate and carob has less refined sugar then their milky counterpart.
